About
The Birmingham Midshires Company
Birmingham
Midshires dates back to 1849 and is the result of an amalgamation
of some 50 building societies including the Liverpool and Birmingham
& Bridgwater Building Societies. The branch network is concentrated
in the areas of the West Midlands, North West and South West. The
Wolverhampton head office provides a variety of post and telephone
savings accounts and services.
Birmingham Midshires became part of the Halifax Group in April 1999
, retaining its own brand, branches and product range whilst also
being able to draw on the considerable resource and market expertise
of its parent.
Birmingham
Midshires now operates as a division of the Halifax plc, providing
a range of specialist lending, savings and insurance products. It
employs over 2000 people and has managed assets in excess of £11
billion. The Corporate Headquarters are based in Wolverhampton.
In
September 2001 the Halifax and Bank of Scotland merged to form a
new force in banking - HBOS plc. Established as a market leading
specialist mortgage lender, in 2002 Birmingham Midshires was awarded
'Best Buy to Let Lender' by Mortgage magazine, and 'Best Provider
of Buy to Let Mortgages' by Mortgage Introducer magazine.
Following the launch of it's new savings and investments growth
strategy, the savings and investment arm of Birmingham Midshires
concentrates on delivering savings solutions to customers through
its 67 strong branch network and a direct telephone based operation.
