About
The Ceridian Company
In 1992,
Ceridian Corporation emerged as an information services company
from the restructuring of its predecessor company, Control Data
Corporation, a computer services and manufacturing company founded
in 1957.
Beginning
in 1990, Ceridian's predecessor company narrowed its focus to three
principal businesses—information services, defense electronics
and computer products. As part of the settlement of an antitrust
lawsuit against IBM, Control Data had acquired the Service Bureau
Company (established in 1932), which became the forerunner of Ceridian's
present-day employer services business. Mini Data, which has evolved
into Powerpay.com, an Internet-based HR/payroll services for companies
with 200 or fewer employees, was acquired by Control Data in 1991.
