The Defaqto Company
Defaqto,
formerly The Research Department, was set up in April 1994. Its
emblem was the “Lady of Blind Justice” which symbolised
the independence and impartiality in the way the company handled
the collection and presentation of data supplied to the financial
services industry.
The company has grown very significantly over the last few years
but with the increasing emphasis on electronic media for the transmission
of financial and insurance data, it was felt it was time to establish
a new identity to take the business forward.
The
company wanted the new identity to retain the founding values of
the business but to have higher impact and awareness and to be more
easily utilised in electronic format. The transition to the new
name was planned to coincide with the new suite of internet products
that the company is launching.
The
new name is Defaqto, derived from the latin words de facto, which
literally mean “about the facts”. The spelling of the
name reflects the company’s involvement in solving the “frequently
asked questions” that are central to the financial and insurance
industries.
While
Defaqto is the new company name, the names of the company’s
core products, Aequos, PolicyGen and IFA Counsellor and FundTracker
remain unchanged.
