DWS
Investments history
DWS
Investments may be a relatively new name in the UK but it represents
a blend of long-standing UK investment expertise with a wealth of
European retail experience.
In
the UK their business roots lie with Morgan Grenfell, a company
that was founded in 1863 and began its asset management business
in the 1950s. Initially, their investment skills were offered to
pension funds, but in 1987 they took over the management of their
first investment trust, and in 1988, with the launch of their unit
trust range, it meant that private investors could also gain access
to their investment expertise.
In
1990 Morgan Grenfell became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Deutsche
Bank Group and its retail business was known as Deutsche Asset Management
between October 1999 and September 2002.
Meanwhile,
on the continent there was another company harnessing the same global
investment expertise of Deutsche - DWS Investments. DWS Investments
is particularly strong in Germany where they had over a 24% market
share by the end of 2001. It made sense for the business as a whole
to create one pan-European brand and as a consequence the UK retail
operation was renamed DWS Investments on 16 September 2002. DWS
Investments is today Europe's biggest Mutual Funds Company.
