The Kwik Save Company
Kwik Save and Somerfield merged in March 1998. They are both part
of Somerfield plc but operate as distinct separate businesses. Somerfield
has 590 stores across the UK, and Kwik Save has over 687.
Recent Kwik Save History
2001
The first Kwik Save managers' conference assembled in October at
Pwllheli, North Wales, to focus on the company's future strategy
- a move geared towards big brands and low prices. Kwik Save opened
its first concept store in Sale, Manchester, in November Intended
as a blueprint for the future shape of the business, it re-engineered
ranges and promotions and launched an £80,000 makeover programme.
Significant investments were made in IT infrastructure, staff training
and EpoS.
2002
Somerfield plc announces that Robin Whitbread, currently Group Buying
Director, is to combine his Buying role with that of Managing Director
of the Kwik Save Business Unit. Mr Whitbread, 51, has previous experience
of leading the Buying, Marketing and Retail functions during his
time at J Sainsbury plc.
