Provident Financial are market leaders in home credit in the United
Kingdom and Ireland. They also have a successful credit card business.
Provident's speciality is home credit – small, short-term,
unsecured cash loans. Local agents deliver the money to their customers’
homes and call every week to collect repayments. There is an up
front fixed charge with no default or penalty charges whatsoever
– even if a customer misses a repayment or takes longer to
repay their loan. Their service is simple, convenient, flexible

Provident Financial history dates back to 1880 when Provident was
founded to provide affordable credit to working class families in
industrial West Yorkshire. Since then they have grown to become
the UK‘s leading provider of home credit with a successful
credit card operation. Provident Financial obtained a London Stock
Exchange listing in 1962 and today is a FTSE midshare 250 company.
In 1997 the home credit model was transferred overseas, initially
in Poland and the Czech Republic and then to additional countries
as part of the strategy to develop new sources of growth outside
the UK. Since that time the international division expanded rapidly
and in 2007 the company implemented a separate listing for the international
business. It now trades independently as International Personal
Finance.
A
further change in 2007 was the sale of the company’s motor
insurance business, Provident Insurance to Car Care Plan (Holdings)
Limited (a subsidiary of GMAC Insurance Holdings Inc.).
